If Walls Could Talk, What Story Would They Tell?
The Knight-Allen house is one of the oldest houses on Provo center street, built in 1899 by Jesse Knight. He was a very prominent and wealthy business owner, having a successful coal mining business. The home has been passed down from generation to generation, and is one of the few homes in Provo that still has it’s original architecture.
I have always been fascinated by this house. Everything about it is unique. There are different architectural styles from the Roman style pillars, to the Victorian turrets, to the Gothic archways. The character of the home really shines through the original stained glass windows and the fancy crown molding. It’s interesting to see that each side of the house has a slightly different style.
At first glance, the house caught my eye because the design is just so random. My eye didn’t know where to look first! But the more I looked at it, the more I loved it. It made me wonder, who lives here? Where are they from? What inspired this design? You can see the rich history through the careful and ornate design. These characteristics make it off beat and personal. To me, that's what makes a timeless home. If these walls could talk, what story would they tell?
